A Tribute To John O'Neill

For those who don't know, O'Neill was the FBI Counterterrorism agent portrayed by Harvey Keitel in "Path to 9-11." Like Terrorism czar Richard Clarke (who has become a caricature of himself of late), O'Neill was one of the few Clinton era table-pounders who truly understood the threat al-Qaeda and Bin Laden posed to the US, and tried repeatedly to warn the larger law enforcement and political establishment of the threat.

Here is PBS's tribute site. Make sure to check out the "Map" feature - it provides an excellent and accessible dot-connecting feature that helps put together for the average Joe the complicated network of individuals and events that led up to 9-11 that O'Neill helped to uncover.

O'Neill, a patriot and American hero, perished on September 11 in the World Trade Center, where he was serving as head of WTC security at the time. He died trying to organize evacuation efforts.
